As a functioning building, we are required to conduct flat flushes in any bathrooms that are unoccupied for a significant period of time.
Why we carry out flat flushes
If a bathroom is unused for a long period of time, the water in the pipes needs to be refreshed. This involves running the taps and shower for a few minutes and flushing the toilet.
This is a quick safety check that reduces the risk of bacteria such as Legionella and keeps your bathroom in good condition for when you return.
Before you leave for your holiday
A few simple steps will make your return much easier:
Tell reception how long you will be away
Remove all food that will expire (especially milk and fresh items)
Empty your bins
Pause any food deliveries or subscriptions
Switch off your underfloor heating
Turn off lights and appliances (except your fridge and freezer)
Check windows are closed
Lock your room door
Taking these steps prevents unwanted smells, keeps your room safe, and helps you return to a clean and comfortable space.
