Heading on holiday or traveling back home?

keeping your room safe, fresh and well‑maintained while you are away

Updated over a month ago

If you plan to be away for more than two weeks, whether for the festive period, a holiday or a trip home, please let the reception team know your dates. This helps us keep your flat safe and well‑maintained while you are gone.

As a functioning building, we are required to conduct flat flushes in any bathrooms that are unoccupied for a significant period of time.

Why we carry out flat flushes

If a bathroom is unused for a long period of time, the water in the pipes needs to be refreshed. This involves running the taps and shower for a few minutes and flushing the toilet.

This is a quick safety check that reduces the risk of bacteria such as Legionella and keeps your bathroom in good condition for when you return.

Before you leave for your holiday

A few simple steps will make your return much easier:

  • Tell reception how long you will be away

  • Remove all food that will expire (especially milk and fresh items)

  • Empty your bins

  • Pause any food deliveries or subscriptions

  • Switch off your underfloor heating

  • Turn off lights and appliances (except your fridge and freezer)

  • Check windows are closed

  • Lock your room door

Taking these steps prevents unwanted smells, keeps your room safe, and helps you return to a clean and comfortable space.
